Phase 1 of the Deck

A while ago I mentioned something about a dreamy outdoor living space that we wanted to create.  Well, two months later we have a plan.  It's not dreamy, yet, but it's a starting point for Tyler when he begins working on the house full time NEXT WEEK!

Here's the plan.  Get ready for colored pencils and amateur hour.  (Sketch by Tyler.)

What we have here is a cedar deck off the house, followed by a walkway to another portion of deck that is large enough for a table and chairs.  On either side of the walkway are designated planting areas for trees and grasses. (lovely!)  A planter/wall frames out the right side of the deck to offer privacy and ambiance.  The left side is framed in by the gorgeous concrete retaining wall.  There's also a step down to access the dirt trail which goes to the lower portion of the property where all that hot grass is growing.  (did you follow?)

Here's the location.  We used pink string to define it, which you probably can't see.
I know.  It looks daunting.  You have to start somewhere.

This image will help. The deck and planting areas will kind of feel like this image below, which is from a coffee shop in Burien.  The greenery peeking out from below is a nice element!
(The orange chairs were a good choice, eh?)

Okay!  Tyler, enjoy your freedom while you have it.
