The seasons are slowly changing here in Spokane from end-of-winter to almost-spring. Tyler and I have been dreaming and sketching out an outdoor space for the warm summer days.
The space as it currently exists:
(Don't be pessimistic.)
We'd like it to feel somewhat like this, though keep in mind this is extravagant:
Here is our somewhat attainable wish list for our outdoor space based off a late night brainstorming session:
* A private space
* Enough room for dinner with friends
* No shoes required
* A privacy fence/wall, maybe 5' tall and 8' long.
* Built-in seating, benches
* Fireplace/fire pit
* One small patch of sod. Seriously. This will be a low maintenance property.
* Minimalist water feature to drown out the road noise
* Ornamental grasses to dress up the space
* Aspen grove to create more privacy

I love the ideas you've put out there! I think my dream is always to have something above like a pergola so you still can see the sky, but have the option to hang lights and have some vine-y things hanging (NOT IVY! GROSS), and if you decide to have a Moroccan-themed party (which, duh, why not?) you can hang fabric. Then, obviously, you could install those mist machines above for those scorching days when you're pretending that you're not trying to get a sun tan. Also, a cabana boy is probably a necessity. I believe that you're in luck because of you proximity to Whitworth and college students who a) are willing to do a lot for money, b) already own Speedos, and c) are willing to wear said Speedos in order to serve you drinks.
