Right now the inside of Hartanov House has white walls and a subfloor so covered in drywall dust that it may appear white as well. In case you were curious if we'd be living in a petri dish of all white finishes from head to toe that is so sterile looking it will actually cause illness, we are not. But, this happens to be a very popular look right now. Thanks to Unhappy Hipsters for an image and some wit in case you don't know what I am talking about.

On on a similar vein, another popular look in contemporary design that we are seeing too much of is what I like to call "The Asylum Package", which consists of white walls, and way too much concrete (floors, walls, counter tops). No, we are not pursuing this either. (Hey, no offense here if you like this stuff! My opinion tends to be strong...)

We decided to paint our walls white to begin with as a starting point. Paint color can easily be changed later. To steer clear of the above "looks", ample amounts of wood will be used. As stated in a previous post, I believe wood is the great equalizer between industrial contemporary and home. So to balance out our lack of trim, straight edges, and white walls, we will be adding wood. Homes in the NW need wood.
So here's a look at our starting point, our neutral palette. These products and colors will be present throughout the house. (vertical grain fir, mahogany plywood, super white paint, the beautiful color gray.) Our thought at the moment is to offset the basics shown above with pops of colors: lime green/bright yellow/deep orange in the big room, eggplant in the master, and light gray-blue in the master bath. But, like I said, "at the moment". This could change tomorrow.
