Foam, Sweet Foam

Guess what?! There are lots of options to insulate houses. Did you know that? I didn't. I thought the scratchy pink cotton candy was it. Turns out there are options like: fiberglass (most common), blown cellulose (recycled newspaper), structurally insulated panels (sip), and foam. In our climate, insulation is an important aspect because Spokane has such hot summers and cold winters. Therefore we wanted to place a priority in our budget for getting the best insulation we could, since it cannot be upgraded later. Highly influenced by a descendant of the Corbond legacy, Tyler became sold on foam.

Foam was his choice for two major reasons: it seals out any air leaks that are in the wall cavity, and it has an extremely high R value per inch. Basically its great at maintaining the temperature while consuming less energy and allows us to pay lower monthly bills. It comes out in a liquid from this gun that a professional installer uses. Then, as its name suggests, it foams and hardens. To keep our costs down we chose open-cell foam as apposed to closed-cell, which has an even higher R value and price.
