As our original illustration spells out, we went with a dark gray color that hangs out a little bit in the blue family (just like our cabinets!). The gray will probably not be as dark as the illustration, which is almost black.
To offset the cold, industrial feel of the metal, cedar siding will be applied to the rest of the structure, also similar to the drawing. We will treat the cedar so that it stays a nice warm honey color to offset the gray. The wood will give it that "We live in the Northwest and have wood on our house" identity.
Finally our brace frame (the X!) and any detailing (front door?) will be painted red-orange.
I cannot wait until the siding goes on. It will be a real "coming to life" moment. (And also a make-or-break moment to see if we like it, which WE WILL!)
