Deer are Pests

Deer are Pests.

Someone said this to us recently and we've been pondering it.  I think of pests as yellow jackets, rats, mosquitoes, etc.  But deer?

Most recently, we have had some destruction in our yard, caused by the deer.  The bucks have been rubbing their antlers on our freshly planted aspens.  Two trees have been snapped in half.  (!)  Many others have been whittled to the bone.  Deer have also been eating the trees to the point that there is visible distress. We've had to purchase protective tape and plastic tubes for the bases of the trunks, which makes them look more like trees wearing turtlenecks.

It's really more of a beatnik gathering than a yard.

(Side note:  Halloween costume for Tyler?)

Back to the issue.  Is this what drives people into hunting?

Can we really trust an animal that has no differentiation between the singular and the plural?  Does their beauty make up for their intelligence?  Are they majestic animals or more like anxious mules?

You decide.
