The Stairs

Details. Details. Thank goodness we only have one set of stairs in the house. Stairs are tricky and time consuming. Tyler and Tom have been mastercrafting this thing for a while.

We finally got them nailed up, sanded, and sealed.

They are kind of a big thing, you know, for code. You gotta have a rise, and a run, and a rail. Yup, big deal. I like the contrast in the woods, shown here.

We are incorporating our favorite marine grade mahogany plywood on the rise, paired with red oak treads. Did you know that treads (the part you step on) are really expensive? Ridiculous. I was trying to convince Ty to use all mahogany, but treads have to take a beating, so we kept it solid wood. Craftsmanship shown here.

Along with sealing the stairs, we also finished the lower level floors. Progress, people!

Talk about experiemental. We are even trying our marine-grade plywood in the lower level bathroom. I'll let you know how "marine grade" it is.
