The "In Your Face" Closet Idea

It's a small photo for whatever reason, but it's here to show you our current closet set-up.  One bar.  One shelf.  One temporary mess.  The goal is to build a functional closet with more defined space for our belongings (and to pare down our belongings).  This is not cutting it. Our main dilemma has been what to use for closet doors.

Change of plans.  We like the concept of the walk-in closet, you know, where everything is open.  So, no doors.  (Also, no walk-in closet.  I'm calling it a walk-up closet.)  In order to be open, it has to be good looking.  I've been scouting Pinterest for inspiration while we try to design this puppy.  Comments below.

This image so far is my favorite, mainly because it's using wood that looks a lot like our favorite plywood, which we will be using in the closet as well.  Lots of drawers, cubbies, designated hanging spaces.

I like that this closet has vertical dividers, which are good when two people have to share.  Other favorite features: (1) the short drawer fronts which allow you to see the contents inside each drawer without sliding it open (2) the killer, but simple, shoe rack.
Check out the rods that the pants hang on. (cool!) I also like that the back of this closet is paneled in wood.  It brings the drama, no?
As far as the actual space, this one here emulates ours.  Not enough drama, but probably a good idea of our end product.
The lines on this one are very clean, though the suitcases outweigh the possessions.  Still, functional.

Ty and I are going to start sketching.  Hopefully something will come of it?

  1. OMG! You can design my functional closet next! I just cleaned it out (again!) this weekend. There's no organization, so I can never keep it organized. Boo! To the one bar, one shelf design. Me no like-y!

  2. Hi AmySue! I'd say take the doors off it, which is my new answer to everything. When he plays nice, he can have his doors back...
